Shenzhen Topped the List of Best 100 E-commerce City

According to the 2013 Report on China Urban E-Commerce Development Index released by Ali Research Institute on 4th , June, Shenzhen got the highest index of e-commerce development, and topped the list of Best 100 E-commerce City in China. The 53 National E-commerce Model Cities represented by Shenzhen show greater online penetration rate than other cities.

In 2010, Ali Research Institute launched NDII research together with Center for Informatization Study. Till now, it processed an measured survey covered 294 prefecture-level and above cities based on its vast data and Alibaba E-commerce Development Index system, thus came out with the list of 2013 China Best 100 E-commerce City.

On the list, Shenzhen got the first place with a development index of 37.49, followed by Guangzhou and Hangzhou.

According to the data   Economy, Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, since 2009, the amount of e-commerce deals in Shenzhen has been kept an increase of around 50%. And in 2013, there were over 5 million people doing online shopping, with a net purchase amount of 88.9 billion yuan, occupying 20.1% of the city’s total retail sales of social consumer.

The survey also showed that the 53 National E-commerce Model Cities represented by Shenzhen having greater online penetration rate than other cities. Among them, E-commerce enterprises in B2B both internal and international trade occupy over 70% of the national total amount, and retail e-commerce over 60%, while their consumers occupy over 55% of the total volume.

In the view of scattering scope, Zhejiang Province and Jiangsu Province has the most enlisted cities, amounting to 11, followed by Guangdong Province and Fujian Province with 10 and 9 cities enlisted respectively.
